Ortiz holds a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) from the University of Phoenix.

As an athlete, Ortiz ran track at the collegiate level for Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi as a walk on. He ran the 400 meter hurdles.

A native of Corpus Christi (TX), Ortiz and his wife Jessica have two children, Liam (13) and Emma (10).
